A new species of Hemicyclops (Crustacea, Copepoda, Poecilostomatoida, Clausidiidae) associated with hermit crabs in Curaçao Naturalis
Stock, Jan H..
STOCK, J. H. 1992. A new species of Hemicyclops (Crustacea, Copepoda, Poecilostomatoida, Clausidiidae) associated with hermit crabs in Curaçao. Stud. Nat. Hist. Caribbean Region 71, Amsterdam 1992: 69-78. Hemicyclops geminatus n. sp. is described from the upper infralittoral zone of Curaçao (Antilles). It is a regular associate of three species of hermit crabs: Calcinus tibicen, Paguristes grayi, and Dardanus venosus. The new taxon appears to be a twin species of Hemicyclops columnaris HUMES, 1984, an associate of a stony coral off the Pacific coast of Panamá.

A preliminary review of zoanthid-hermit crab symbioses (Cnidaria; Zoantharia/Crustacea, Paguridea) Naturalis
Ates, R.M.L..
A preliminary review is presented of zoanthid-hermit crab symbioses reported in the literature. The records of Balss (1924) are included. Aspects of this type of symbiosis are discussed.

Clustering behavior of hermit crabs (Decapoda, Anomura) in an interdital rocky shore at São Sebastião, Southeastern Brazil BJB
TURRA,A.; LEITE,F. P. P..
The clustering behavior and cluster composition of hermit crabs as well as the patterns of shell utilization of clustered and scattered individuals were studied. This study was conducted in the intertidal region of Grande Beach, São Sebastião, southeastern Brazil. Samples were taken both in randomized transects and 1 m² quadrats during low tide periods. Crabs were counted, measured (shield length), and sexed. Shells were identified and had their adequacy and condition (physical damage and incrustation) recorded. Clusters ocurred mainly in air exposed areas and were dominated or composed only by Clibanarius antillensis. Other species like Paguristes tortugae, Pagurus criniticornis, and Calcinus tibicen were also present in these clusters, but in small...

Paguroids (Decapoda: Anomura: Diogenidae and Paguridae) of the remote oceanic Archipelago Trindade and Martin Vaz, off southeast Brazil, with new records, description of three new species and zoogeographical notes ArchiMer
Lima, Daniel; Tavares, Marcos; Braga De Mendonça, Joel Jr..
Trindade and Martin Vaz (TMV) is a highly isolated, oceanic volcanic archipelago located some 1200 km off the Brazilian coast and about 4200 km away from the nearest African coast. For almost 100 years Calcinus tibicen (Herbst, 1791) was the only hermit crab species known from TMV. From 2012 to 2018, 263 daytime SCUBA diving and intertidal samplings conducted at TMV yielded 1075 paguroid specimens in 10 species, three of which are established herein as new species: Iridopagurus martinvaz sp. nov., Nematopagurus micheleae sp. nov., and Pagurus carmineus sp. nov. Iridopagurus margaritensis García-Gómez, 1983, and Phimochirus leurocarpus McLaughlin, 1981, both only known from the northern hemisphere, are recorded for the first time from the southwestern...

Phylogeny of the Anomura (Decapoda, Crustacea): Spermatozoa and spermatophore morphological evidence Naturalis
Tudge, Christopher C..
A phylogenetic analysis of selected anomuran, thalassinidean, and other decapod crustacean taxa, based on spermatozoal ultrastructural characters and spermatophore morphological characters, was performed and the following relationships of the taxa are elucidated from the trees produced. The Anomura are not a monophyletic assemblage, with the lomoid Lomis being exclusive of the remainder of the anomuran taxa, and the thalassinid Thalassina included in the anomuran clade. The synapomorphy joining the majority of the conventional anomuran taxa ( Lomis excluded) is the cytoplasmic origin of the microtubular arms. When the palinurid and thalassinoid representatives are separately designated as outgroups, the Astacidea and Brachyura jointly formed a sister group...

[Proceedings of the 5th Symposium on Mesozoic and Cenozoic Decapod Crustaceans, Krakow, Poland, 2013: A tribute to Pál Mihály Müller / R.H.B. Fraaije, M. Hyžný, J.W.M. Jagt, M. Krobicki & B.W.M. van Bakel (eds.)]: A new type of pylochelid sixth abdominal tergite (Anomura, Paguroidea) from the Upper Jurassic of Poland Naturalis
Fraaije, R.H.B.; Krzemiński, W.; Bakel, B.W.M. van; Krzemińska , E.; Jagt, J.W.M..
Oxfordian (Upper Jurassic) siliceous sponge-microbial reef strata in the southern Polish Uplands around Kraków have recently yielded two types of sixth abdominal tergites of pylochelid paguroids. We here add a third one, Pylochelitergites exspectatus sp. nov. These small-sized, operculiform remains have a high preservation potential and thus allow us to document the geological history of two families of symmetrical hermit crabs, the Pylochelidae and Parapylochelidae, in some detail.

The systematics of the genus Anapagurus Henderson, 1886, and a new genus for Anapagurus drachi Forest, 1966 (Crustacea: Decapoda: Paguridae) Naturalis
García-Gómez, J..
A worldwide systematic review of the genus Anapagurus is presented. In addition to the rediagnoses of the genus and all known species, five new species, A. alboranensis, A. adriaticus, A. vossi, A. atlantidii, and A. congolensis, are described. All 18 species are illustrated and a key to the species is given. Several new diagnostic characters found in the right chelipeds (1- the shape and relative size of the mesial and lateral lobes that flank the dorsoproximal margin of the palm; 2- the shape and relative size of the median sinus of the ventroproximal palmar margin; 3- the shape, armature and relative size of the dorsomesial distal carpal angle; and 4- the shape and extension of both ventrodistal and ventroproximal carpal margins, which determine the...
